Psyllium husk is a dietary fiber derived from the seeds of the plantago ovata plant, which is native to India. The husk, or outer covering, of the psyllium seeds is rich in soluble fiber. When mixed with water or other liquids, psyllium husk forms a gel-like substance that can aid in various health benefits.

Psyllium husk is derived from the seeds of the Plantago ovata plant. After the seeds are harvested and processed, the outer husk or seed coat is separated and used as psyllium husk.

Fiber Content of Psyllium Husk

Psyllium husk is extremely rich in fiber, particularly soluble fiber. It contains about 70-80% soluble fiber and 20-30% insoluble fiber. The primary soluble fiber component in psyllium husk is mucilage, which has water-absorbing and bulking properties.

Appearance of Psyllium Husk

Psyllium husk typically appears as a fine, powdery substance that is light brown or tan in color. It is very fine and can easily mix into liquids. When mixed with water or other liquids, psyllium husk forms a gel-like substance due to its high soluble fiber content.
