Psyllium husk powder is a finely ground form of the outer husk of the seeds from the Plantago ovata plant. Here are the key characteristics and uses of psyllium husk powder:

Source of Psyllium Powder

Psyllium powder is derived from grinding or milling psyllium husk, which itself comes from the seeds of the Plantago ovata plant. The husk is separated from the seeds, and then finely ground into a powder.

Fiber Content of Psyllium Powder

Psyllium powder is extremely rich in fiber, predominantly soluble fiber. It contains approximately 70-80% soluble fiber and 20-30% insoluble fiber. The soluble fiber component, mucilage, is responsible for its water-absorbing and bulking properties.

Appearance of Psyllium Powder

Psyllium powder is a very fine, light brown or tan-colored powder. It has a smooth texture and easily dissolves in water or other liquids. When mixed with fluids, psyllium powder quickly forms a gel-like consistency due to its high soluble fiber content.
